How What You Value in Your Home Changes with Time

One of the challenges of building a new home is trying to anticipate what features of your home will best benefit you now—and into the future. Naturally, part of what makes that a challenge is that what’s important to your and your family now will change with time.

For instance, a three-bedroom home might meet your needs just fine at the moment. But what if your family grows?  What if you or your spouse has an aging parent that needs to move in?  Your current needs might not dictate another bedroom, but it’s a lot less expensive to include it now than it is to attempt to add it on later.  And it’s also a lot less hassle.

The importance of location matters as well. If you have younger school-aged children, it may be important to you to be close to award-winning schools.  If you have older kids who are close to graduation that may not be as big an issue.

Again, if you have younger children, you may want to select a home with a floor plan that allows you to keep an eye on them during the day without having to run up and down stair a lot.  And speaking of stairs, they probably aren’t much of a consideration when you’re in your 30s or 40s.  As you get older, you may want to make sure you have a home that allows you plenty of space on one level so that you don’t have to make as many trips up and down the stairs.

One value that shouldn’t be overlooked is the financial value of your home. Owning a quality home in a desirable neighborhood remains one of the best investments you can make. While housing prices may not skyrocket like they did several years ago, home values continue to appreciate in the right areas.  So not only do you receive the benefit of living in a home you love for as long as you want, but you’re making a solid financial investment in the future.

With those things in mind, we invite you to explore both our Country Classics at Hillsborough and Fox Brook at Montgomery.  Both offer homes of exceptional quality in outstanding neighborhoods that will continue to deliver value for years to come.
