Which Upgrades are Most Worthwhile?

Home builders tend to offer many optional extras when they are building new homes – but they also tend to know which upgrades will have the biggest impact on the future value of your home. When you’re discussing possible design upgrades with your builder, be sure to ask them which options are the best choices. A good homebuilder will be happy to offer advice. 

Referrals for Other Services

Sometimes, home builders simply don’t offer everything you want. Perhaps you want to add a pergola or a deck, or you want a new home theater or swimming pool. If your home builder doesn’t offer the service themselves, chances are they know a great company that does, and they can probably refer you to someone. 

Where Can I Buy Replacement Parts or Finishes?

In most cases, home builders will offer a standard range of parts, hardware and finishes, usually from major suppliers and manufacturers. It’s always a good idea to ask your home builder for detailed care instructions (for instance, how to clean painted walls correctly), as well as details of where to buy replacement parts or hardware, or touch up paint etcetera. 

What Should I Know about Manufacturer’s Warranties?

In most cases, your home builder will provide you with a guarantee or warranty on construction and installation of the various materials, fixtures and fittings in your home, but usually, the actual equipment itself is covered by a separate manufacturer’s warranty. Make sure you ask about these warranties, and what you should or should not be doing to ensure that you remain covered.
