Chances are you’ll need to buy a few things for your new apartment, whether you’re moving from another Bridgewater rental or downsizing from a house.  In fact, you may want to make a trip to Bridgewater Commons Mall or Bridgewater Towne Center one of your first priorities after moving. In this post we've outlined the top items that you'll want to consider purchasing in order to make your new apartment feel like home.

New Furniture

Depending on the dimensions of your new space, you may need to buy a new couch, bookcase, breakfast table or bedroom furniture. If you’re downsizing from a house, you may find that your furniture is too large for your apartment living room or just doesn’t complement your new décor. Before you head to Pottery Barn, Raymour & Flanigan or other Bridgewater furniture stores, take a few measurements to ensure that your new selections will fit perfectly without blocking doors or hallways.

Balcony Furniture

Does your apartment include a private balcony? During the spring or summer, your balcony is the perfect place to decompress, entertain and enjoy the warm weather. Furnish it with a small table, umbrella, a few chairs, an outdoor rug and potted plants.

Window Coverings and Linens

Your current draperies may not fit the windows in your new apartment, particularly if you’re moving from an older apartment or home. Although the blinds provided by the community will provide privacy and shade, you may want to use your own. Liven up your new space with window coverings that complement your furniture or add a splash of color to your living room or bedroom.

Accessories

Don’t forget to add accessories to your list too. Artwork, plants, sculptures, tapestries, lamps and area rugs give your apartment a warm, cozy feel. Accessories offer a simple way to create focal points in every room. Add a pair of accent pillows to the couch, cover your bed with a lush brocade comforter, or hang your favorite artwork on the living room wall.

Kitchen Items

No matter how careful your movers are, it’s not unusual to discover a few broken glasses or dishes after a move. Take an inventory of your kitchen items as you unpack, and make a list of the items you need. In addition to the necessities, why not add a few luxury items to your list? After all, spending time in the kitchen is more fun if you get to use a yogurt maker, cocktail machine, retro red toaster or automatic pot-stirrer.

Grocery Cart

While you’re out, pick up a wheeled, foldable grocery cart to make it easy to transport groceries and other items from your car to your apartment. If you don’t like the appearance of metal carts, pick up a foldable, wheeled shopping bag instead. The bags are available in a variety of colors and patterns that are anything but boring.

Pet Camera

Lonely, bored pets tend to get into trouble. They can rip apart your comforter, unroll every inch of the toilet paper, or bark until the neighbors complain. Fortunately, you can reassure your pet and offer a little stimulation with an interactive pet camera. The cameras provide live views of your pet and offer two-way audio so that you can speak to your dog or cat. The devices will even toss out treats when you select the option on the app.

Collapsible Snow Shovel

Will you be moving during the winter? One of the best things about living in an apartment community is the free snow removal. If you’re downsizing from a house, you’ll appreciate not having to shovel the walk and driveway anymore. Although the community will take care of the bulk of the shoveling and plowing, you’ll usually still need to shovel out your car after a big snow storm. Finding a place to store a big, bulky snow shovel can be a little challenging. Fortunately, several manufacturers make collapsible shovels that fit in a closet or in your car’s trunk.
