Lawn care pesticides improve your yard’s appearance but can endanger wildlife and contaminate runoff and ground water. Fortunately, it’s possible to keep your yard green and weed free with eco-friendly products and strategies. The Eco-Friendly Grass Care program, offered at the Bridgewater Library from 2 to 3 p.m. on the 21st, will give you the information you need to maintain your lawn organically. The program will cover fertilization, moving practices, over-seeding and soil testing and will offer comparisons between traditional and organic lawn care programs.
Brooks Arts Center celebrates the musical talents of Ozzy Osbourne, Black Sabbath and Motorhead with this special show on March 21st at 8 p.m. Bark at the Moon and special guest Head Motor take you back to the 80s when these groups put on amazing, high-intensity shows. If you’ve always wished you could have seen Ozzy in his heyday, or you want to relive old memories, this tribute show is one you won’t want to miss. Tickets cost $18.
The educators at Duke Farms know that a little mystery makes everything in life a little more exciting, including exploring nature. The theme of the mystery walk will be revealed to you when you arrive at the Farms on the 22nd. The walk takes place from 1 to 3 p.m., costs $10 and may include a two- to three-mile walk on trails with varying conditions.
The whole family can take part in the Garden State 10 Miler, held this year on March 29th. The event features a 5K, 10-miler, a 10-mile relay, a half marathon challenge and 1-mile kids fun run. The 10-Miler benefits the Nick Magos Cancer Callout. Races begin in Colonial Park Parking Lot B. Times vary depending on the race. Day-of-race registration is available, although you’ll save a little money by registering in advance.
You’ll almost believe you’ve been transported back to 18th century New Jersey when you visit the Battle of Bound Brook. The popular historic event celebrates Central New Jersey’s role in the Revolutionary War with streets battle and military drills. You’ll see recreations of army camps and can even interact with reenactors playing the parts of American and British troops, merchants and camp followers.
Admission to the grounds and street battles are free, while admission to the historic house tour and lectures is $10 for adults and $5 for seniors and children 17 and younger. Bring the whole family and pay only $20 (good for up to five family members.)
This year’s New Jersey Folk Festival Celebrates Oaxaca, one of Mexico’s southern states. Events will include dance and music performances, a fashion show, food demonstrations, the annual singer/songwriter competition and a juried craft market featuring 100 vendors. If you plan to bring your children with you, you may want to pay a visit to the Interactive Experiences area and learn how to make paper kites and flowers. Admission to the festival is free.
